METRO BECOMES A
"GOLD" ATI SPONSOR
We are extremely
honored to announce that Metro, operator of the St. Louis
metropolitan region’s public transportation system, has become a
“Gold” Association of Travel Instruction sponsor.
Metro is
ATI’s first Gold sponsor, for which our Board of Directors is very
proud to say, “thank you very much, Metro!” Metro operates a
multi-modal system that includes MetroBus, MetroLink light rail, and
the Metro Call-A-Ride paratransit service. Metro’s ADA Coordinator,
Ms. Patricia Hall, and her staff of travel trainers have done an
extraordinary job as this year’s conference “local arrangements
committee,” for which ATI is equally thankful. When in St. Louis for
the ATI conference, help us thank Metro by using their extensive
public transportation network. Visit Metro online at
http://www.metrostlouis.org. |

THE ATI REGISTRY
The ATI Registry of
travel trainers and travel instructors will be updated in September
of this year.
If you
CLICK
HERE, you will find a recent letter to ATI members from
Registration Committee chairperson Frances Rankos and a copy of the
ATI Registry Questionnaire. If you are a travel trainer or travel
instructor and you want to be included in the September 2009
Registry update, you must accomplish two tasks: first, be a member
of ATI for our July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010 year; and second, fill
out the Registry Questionnaire and return it to ATI. A small number
of ATI members who completed and returned the questionnaire to us
earlier in 2009 are not obliged to complete it again. A major goal
of ATI in 2010 is to move the travel trainer/travel instructor
registration and certification process forward. |

ATI QUALIFIES FOR
$118,000 JARC-NEW FREEDOM
GRANT
In late June, ATI
president Terry Moakley was notified that ATI’s application for a
grant titled, “Mobility Management in New York City, With an
Emphasis on Group Travel Training Events,” was approved by the New
York Metropolitan Transportation Council, the Metropolitan Planning
Organization (MPO) in the New York City region.
However,
this is an 80%/20% matching share reimbursement grant, meaning that
ATI must first raise the $118,000, hopefully through recent
transportation appropriations or via a contractual arrangement.
Then, we must carry out the grant details between October 1, 2009 –
September 30, 2010 and submit documentation that we have done so to
the Federal Transit Administration, in order to be reimbursed 80% of
what we have spent. Further details about this grant project will be
made available in this newsletter as they unfold. |

ATI ST. LOUIS CONFERENCE
LATE REGISTRANTS
While we are
pleased to report that we have met our contractual room reservation
guarantee at the Crowne Plaza St. Louis Downtown Hotel, we still
have plenty of room for late registrants for the July 31 – August 2
Ninth Annual ATI Professional Development Conference.
We have a
varied and full agenda and two different easy ways to register, and
you cannot beat our low $130 conference registration fee ($170 for
non-ATI members). Apart from our outstanding agenda, we have some
fun planned for our traditional Saturday night banquet, and a raffle
featuring some “way cool” items.
full conference registration details. Please note that the $111.00
per night room rate, single or double occupancy, is no longer
available at the Crowne Plaza; however, if you decide to register
late, please e-mail ATI president Terry Moakley,
tmoakley@unitedspinal.org, or call Terry at (845) 634-4257,
because he should be able to arrange an affordable room rate for
you. |

NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR ATI
DIRECTORS
Members of ATI
should be thinking about running for a position on the ATI Board of
Directors.
Elections
will be held at our Annual Meeting on July 31 at the St. Louis ATI
Conference.
CLICK HERE for further information. It is important to emphasize
that while you do not need to be present to run for a Director
position, you might want to ask a current ATI Board member to place
your name in nomination and prepare a brief statement for that same
Board member to read to Annual Meeting attendees, or you can
self-nominate and send a statement to any current Director. To have
your name on the pre-printed ballot, ATI must hear from you by July
24th, but ATI accepts Director nominees right up to the time of
election. ATI is in a growth mode. Help your organization grow! |

ARRA 10% OPERATING
ASSISTANCE ENACTED
On June 24th,
President Obama signed a supplemental appropriations law that
enables 10% of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act monies to be
used as operating funds.
CLICK
HERE to read a letter about this from the Federal Transit
Administration. These are funds that can be used for job creation to
go in hand with the 90% ARRA capital funding, and this also may be a
opportune time for a transit agency to use some of this funding to
expand or start a travel training program. But do not delay, since
these funds must be committed by September 1st. |

not ATI members, or other persons simply interested in ATI’s
