AUGUST 13 to 15 ATI
BALTIMORE CONFERENCE REGISTRATION BEGINS
The 10th Annual
Association of Travel Instruction Continuing Education Conference
will be held from Friday, August 13, to Sunday, August 15, 2010, at
the Sheraton Baltimore City Center Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland,
just a few blocks away from the Inner Harbor area.
All 2009-2010 and
2010-2011 ATI members will receive a conference registration packet
in the mail, but to access this packet on the ATI website now,
please
CLICK HERE. Please note that a Preliminary Conference Agenda and
Abstracts of Presentations are included in the packet. Our 10th
Annual Conference has something for everyone: just beginning a
travel training program? Our conference features sessions on hiring
and training new travel trainers; documents needed to manage a
travel training program; the people/departments you need to work
with at a transit property to achieve travel training success; and,
a cost/benefit model and budget for a travel training program.
Working with students in transition? We’ve got two such
presentations: one is a “soup to nuts” look at how travel training
is working for students in transition in a large metropolitan area
school district, while a second panel looks at marketing and
locating funding to travel train students in transition. In many
communities, intersections look like they have been designed by
multiple engineers, so you won’t want to miss a detailed
presentation about the variables involved in teaching safe street
crossings. Travel training has changed in ATI’s decade, too, so we
offer another detailed panel presentation on how our profession
grows, with emphasis on the most critical competencies of route
training. Use of assistive technology in travel training? Knowledge
about side effects of common medications your travel training
students might be taking? Information about a new
wheelchair-accessible sedan vehicle that will soon roll off an
Indiana assembly line, with many transportation uses? The ATI
conference has it all! |

ST. CLOUD, MN METRO BUS
TRAVEL TRAINING PROGRAM FEATURED IN PASSENGER TRANSPORT
The April 26, 2010 “Bus and
Paratransit Conference” special issue of the American Public
Transportation Association’s Passenger Transport magazine included a
full page story about the expansion of the St. Cloud Metropolitan
Transit Commission’s services.
Featured within this article was information about
the growth of the agency’s travel training program, as well as a
photo of Metro Bus Travel Trainer (and ATI member) Debbie Anderson
with one of Debbie’s trainees. Congratulations on this story to our
friends in St. Cloud, and thank you for helping to spread the
message that travel training changes lives dramatically, one at a
time. |
