SPECIAL ATI CONFERENCE REGISTRATION ISSUE

CONFERENCE CO-CHAIRS INVITATION

The 2011 ATI Conference will be held from Thursday, August 11 to Sunday, August 14 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Our Conference Co-chairs this year are Ms. Cecile Charlton, Executive Director of the Delaware County Transportation Management Association, Media, PA, and Ms. Peggy Schmidt, ATI President-elect and Executive Director of the Montgomery County Transportation Management Association, North Wales, PA. These busy ladies have been working hard to develop an outstanding Conference agenda as well as planning some fun social activities for ATI members and other attendees. And, our hotel is literally in the middle of Philadelphia’s Historic District, just a brief walk to destinations like the Liberty Bell and the Constitution Center. CLICK HERE to read the full Conference invitation.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION FORM AND INFORMATION

The ATI conferences keep getting better and better, and Philadelphia Conference plans suggest that this trend will continue this year.

You can save money to attend our August event in two different ways, by registering early and by becoming an ATI member. The Early Bird Registration Fee for ATI members is $175 but to pay this amount, you must register prior to July 29. Of equal importance is the closing date to make your reservation to receive ATI’s special $119 per night room rate at the Holiday Inn Historic District Hotel, and that date is before or on July 11th. Further, you can either register by mail by filling out the Conference Registration Form and returning it to ATI with your check or money order, or register online at the ATI website by using our secure PayPal system. CLICK HERE for full ATI Conference registration information.

BECOME AN ATI MEMBER OR RENEW YOUR ATI MEMBERSHIP

Traditionally, the ATI membership year begins on July 1st of each year and ends on June 30th of the following year.

ATI Individual Member’s dues are $40 per year, and this type of membership is the organization’s biggest member group. The Conference Registration discount discussed above applies to any and all members who renew/join ATI and who register for our Philadelphia gathering prior to July 29th. According to the ATI By-Laws, “Membership in the Corporation is open to all persons, agencies and organizations interested in the professional practice of Travel Instruction…” Since its founding, ATI membership has been open to any person interested in travel training, including disability advocates, parents of children with disabilities, public transportation professionals, etc. ATI has valued Organizational members, too—19 of them for the year that ends June 30th of next month—and dues for Organizational members are $100 per year. Organizational members attending the Philadelphia conference pay the $175 conference discount registration fee. We encourage current/potential members employed by an agency to consider becoming either Organizational members or an ATI Sponsor. Frankly, Organizational memberships and Sponsorships help ATI to pay our bills. ATI also has a small number of Auxiliary members who pay a $20 fee per year. Auxiliary members have no voting rights but do receive our print and this e-newsletter. CLICK HERE to either join or renew your ATI membership online using PayPal, or to print out the 2011-2012 ATI Membership Form, fill it out and return it to us by mail with your check or money order enclosed.

CONFERENCE PRELIMINARY AGENDA AND ABSTRACTS OF PRESENTATIONS

A very important and useful change for this year’s Philadelphia ATI Conference is that our draft Agenda and brief presentation abstracts are combined into one document.

We believe you will agree that this year’s Conference Agenda is decidedly eclectic: from several aspects of travel training from the National Center on Senior Transportation, to “advanced” teaching students to choose safe street crossings, to multiple success stories of partnering with local and regional agencies to provide travel training services, this Agenda, like the Philadelphia Phillies, covers a lot of bases! CLICK HERE to read or print your copy of the Preliminary Agenda/Abstracts document.

THE JACK GORELICK AWARD CRITERIA AND CONFERENCE SCHOLARSHIPS & GRANTS

The Jack Gorelick Award is ATI’s highest honor, and it is presented to an outstanding supporter or practitioner of travel instruction.

Nominations for this award must be made by letter, and must be accompanied by two additional letters of support from persons in the community familiar with the nominee’s achievements. Nominating and supporting letters must be sent to ATI’s Post Office Box postmarked no later than July 1, 2011. Also, ATI is fortunate to have three different scholarships available: the primary purpose of the Jack and Helen Gorelick Scholarship Award, in the amount of $750, is toward tuition in the area of human services but this scholarship may be used to attend the ATI Conference upon approval of the Board of Directors; the primary purpose of the Elizabeth K. Maguire Grant is ATI Conference attendance but its $750 total amount may be distributed in amounts of $250 to three different attendees; and, the Steven W. “Bear” Dickerson ATI Conference Attendance Grant is available to a consumer who has either completed a travel training program or is a current active participant in such a program, and it is available only for reimbursement of travel expenses to and from the conference of up to $600. The deadline for scholarship/grant applications is also July 1, 2011. CLICK HERE for full information.
