Central Maryland Regional Transit seeking Travel Trainer

Central Maryland Regional Transit is seeking a Travel Trainer for a successful training program. The position is grant funded through the next two years.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with a pre-established training curriculum and continue to develop training materials, accessibility tools, and resource guides.
  • Conduct training workshops on how to use fixed-route public transportation safely and independently. By utilizing a train-the-trainer approach, these workshops will target people who work with individuals with disabilities, senior citizens, veterans and low-income families in Carroll, Harford and Baltimore Counties along with the City of Baltimore.
  • Work with the travel training team and a program advisory committee in guiding the program, meeting quarterly benchmarks, and tracking program outcomes and successes.
  • Identify and attend opportunities for program outreach and marketing at community events, disability fairs, and festivals, and by serving on applicable committees throughout the region.
  • Complete monthly and quarterly progress reports.
  • Assist CMRT staff in other related projects as necessary.

Ideal Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Disability Studies, Education, Social Services, Communications, or related field. Excellent verbal and written skills required. Previous experience writing curricula or teaching is strongly desired. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is desirable; Experience with public transportation and the knowledge of grant applications and reporting is also a plus.

Compensation:
$38,000-$42,000 with full benefits

NJTIP JOINS RUTGERS’ VOORHEES TRANSPORTATION CENTER TO EXPAND TRAVEL, TRANSIT OPPORTUNITIES FOR UNDERSERVED POPULATIONS

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J – The Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center (VTC), a national leader in transportation research and education and the nucleus of transportation-related policy research, training and education at Rutgers’ Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, will join with the New Jersey Travel Independence Program (NJTIP), a not-for-profit organization based in Livingston, N.J. The merger will expand and complement VTC’s current portfolio of expertise to include travel training for individuals with disabilities, the elderly and other transportation-disadvantaged populations on how to use existing public transit services to help achieve independence and self-sufficiency.

“I am extremely pleased and confident that NJTIP will continue to grow and prosper under the guidance, support and creative leadership of the Voorhees Transportation Center,” added Barbara Small, founding director of NJTIP. “The possibilities for NJTIP’s success at Rutgers are limitless.”

This move also marks the departure of Barbara Small as Executive Director. She led NJTIP from its’ inception and has championed a variety of expansions of travel instruction services throughout New Jersey.  She will continue on as President of Small & Associates.

Outreach Coordinator

Regional Transit Agency seeks one Outreach Coordinator for New Freedom grant funded program to enhance the mobility of persons with disabilities throughout the Baltimore metropolitan region.  

The coordinator will assist two travel trainers in developing and processing training materials and track on-going staff developments at schools, human service and government agencies.  In addition, the coordinator will provide support in grant research, marketing, community outreach, and passenger relations activities.  Candidates should possess excellent written, verbal and presentation skills and have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Access and Excel. In addition, a working knowledge of Adobe Publisher and/or Creative Suites is preferred.   

Aside from working with the Travel Training team, the Outreach Coordinator will also work closely with the Marketing Department on program branding and other related tasks.

Bachelor’s degree with relevant coursework in marketing, disability studies, public policy, communications, or related fields is preferred; experience in transit industry is a plus.
