Hello ATI members and welcome to our new and improved ATI website! We have a lot of great ideas for the website to be able to provide our members with a more rewarding ATI membership experience. One of those ideas starts with this blog post.
The ATI Board of Directors has decided to publish a monthly blog series about "stuff". We figured that there are 12 months in the year (duh) and 12 of us (duh again) and after A LOT of complicated math (that included the pythagorean theorm for some reason), we concluded that there were an equal number of board members and months of the year. So we decided that each of us could take a month to write at least one blog post about "whatever" and we could engage everyone a little bit more.
Because that is really what our profession is about, isn't it? It is about engaging. It is about caring. It is about connecting. It is about empowering. It is about becoming something bigger than any of the individual pieces and helping others do the same. I know that the nuts and bolts of our profession is training and buses and pedestrian skills, but why is it we do what we do? We do what we do so that we can help people engage with their communities. We do what we do so that we can allow people to make themselves equal members of their community. We empower people to show their potential to the world. And these are all very powerful things.
And when it comes down to it, that is what life is about too, right? It is about connections. It is about finding those around us that complement and complete us and for whom we can do the same. It is about sharing the experiences that happen to us on a daily basis and appreciating the good and bad. It is about the opportunity afforded to us as we move through each day to make an impact on the lives of others. And whether it will be a positive impact or a negative impact is totally our decision.
I try to remember every day a quote I heard in a YouTube video a few years ago (remember, inspiration can come from anywhere!) stating that sometimes you just have to be brave enough to let people know you care. That is what our profession is about. Caring and engaing and connecting and empowering. And I am really proud to be a part of something that has members like you who are out there everyday caring and engaging and connecting and empowering.
Well that got a lot more heavy than I intended for the first blog post! I started out with the intent to just welcome you all and I got quite deep, didn't I? C'est la vie. I hope you all keep coming back and checking this blog out. Please feel free to reach out if you have ideas for the website, for the conference, for the organization, because this thing of ours belongs to all of us!
