Life explores the many endless journeys of cities through buses, trains, trams, and subways. From commuter stories to sustainable transport solutions, this blog dives into how public transportation shapes our daily lives and connects communities whether you are a daily rider, or someone who is riding public transportation for the very first time.
One of the many ways to be able to explore what is out there in today’s society especially if you have never ridden a bus, train, tram or perhaps para-transit transportation, is something that is known as “Travel Training.” You might be asking yourself what is Travel Training?
Travel Training covers a variety of skills such as:
Route training
Reading bus schedules
Trip planning
Street crossing
Boarding and exiting buses
Paying the fare
Using a wheelchair lift
Securing a wheelchair or other mobility device
Making a transfer
Knowing how to signal the driver to stop or for assistance
These are only some of the topics that one will not only learn in a classrooom or in the vehicles themselves such as buses, transit vans, cars, and many other types.
It is something that one or a group of individuals will be able to carry with them throughout their individual transportation journey. If you wish to learn more please visit the Association of Travel Instruction (ATI) website for more exciting information about how Travel Training can open many doors of possibilities for you when you travel.
